UNESCO’s indicators include 5 main media development categories, which are a compound part of each media system, and reflect its level of development: A system of regulation conducive to freedom of expression, pluralism and diversity of the media; Plurality and diversity of media, a level economic playing field and transparency of ownership; Media as a platform for democratic discourse; Professional capacity building and supporting institutions that underpins freedom of expression, pluralism and diversity Infrastructural capacity is sufficient to support independent and pluralistic media;
The analysis of the media landscape according to UNESCO’s indicators, conducted by MIM, both in span and in content, is the first of this type in Macedonia. Hoping that we shall turn the focus towards the situation of the media landscape in Macedonia, we emphasize the need for the existence of such a mechanism for continuous and consistent scanning of the media landscape.
